Operations Superintendent

Job Overview

Our client is an industrial manufacturing organisation based in Brisbane who is currently looking for an Operations Superintendent to provide support to the Operations Manager to operationalise strategic improvements designed to ensure the safe reliable operation of the facility.

Key Functions:

  • Stakeholder engagement with Operations Manager, Area Superintendents, other support staff and the Operations teams.
  • Resourcing of improvement initiative activities, working closely with the Ops Admin & HR Support Manager for manning requirements.
  • Manages the workflow and recording of initiative output and completion using the Agile method as prescribed by MLT members.
  • Contribute to the development of the Operations plans and ensure execution and optimisation of the Operations assets.

Critical Accountabilities & Outcomes (5-10 Key Outputs or Results Required from The Role):

  • Be responsible for your own safety and be aware of the obligations under the Workplace Health and Safety Act. Care for the health and safety of employees by promoting and participating in the use of safety systems, such as the Loss Prevention System (LPS) and appropriately consulting on all substantial changes.
  • Owns the delivery of the Operations Strategic Improvement program, reporting to the Operations Manager as Sponsor of these projects.
  • Supports Operations Admin & HR Manager in the development of Operations Staff, including the development of succession planning and by building improvement capability and culture through knowledge sharing and coaching within stakeholder groups.
  • Support the ongoing improvement of Learning & Development material by chairing regular Operational Excellence Meetings which promote cohesion between the Ops team and the L&D team.
  • Utilise well-structured tools and methodologies (Lean, Agile, Sigma, Project Management) to prioritise, manage and deliver improvement projects, ensuring adherence to recognised change management process for control of changes.
  • Document and monitor business processes, business standards, metrics and standing operating procedures because of improvement projects.
  • Engage with stakeholders across the facility to build ownership and buy-in of improvement projects, ensuring that consultation requirements are addressed.
  • Performs a designated role in the facility Manufacturing Emergency Management Team (MEMT).
  • Provides relief cover for Area Superintendents from time to time.

Key Qualifications/Experience:

  • More than 5 years of experienced in senior operations role
  • Tertiary Education in fields such as science, management, project management, business improvement or engineering, desirable.
  • Working knowledge of risk engineering & risk management concepts.
  • Systemic thinking and applied problem-solving to get to the root cause.
  • Broad knowledge of operational process improvement.
  • Well-developed organisational skills and the capacity to flexibility in balancing priorities to meet/exceed facility /operation’s needs.
  • Influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to apply innovation thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to balance and manage a diverse workforce.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Working knowledge of risk engineering & risk management concepts.
  • Systemic thinking and applied problem solving to get to root cause.
  • Broad knowledge of refining processes.
  • Well-developed organisational skills and the capacity to be flexible in balancing priorities to meet/exceed facility /operation’s needs.
  • Influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to apply innovative thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to balance and manage a diverse workforce.
